Week 3: Ideas Selection

At the start of week 3's lesson, we were asked to develop our ideas using the SCAMPER tool.

The SCAMPER tool allows us to generate solutions for the problem we are facing.

In the midst of the pandemic, it is important to keep ourselves as well as our daily products hygienic to prevent the spread of virus. Hence, our group decided to focus on "the sanitising methods for handphone".

From this particular topic, we expanded our searches on different technologies that could effectively remove virus on the phone's surface. Below are the 5 products that our group managed to find:

1. Alcohol Scrubber

An alcohol scrubber is one that will instantly move to and fro to wipe off the bacteria on the phone's surface.

2. UV Light Conveyor Belt

A UV light conveyor belt is a technology that allows phone to be moving back and forth to get sanitised by the UV light.

3. Antimicrobial Coating

An antimicrobial coating is a technology that will inhibit bacteria growth on the phone's surface.

4. Chemical vapour spray

A chemical vapour spray is one that will directly spray the chemical disinfectants such as Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide to remove the virus.

5. Negative Air Ion Disinfections

The presence of negative air ions on the phone's surface could hinder microorganism growth and reduce a significant amount of biological bacteria.

After the brainstorming and researching session, we applied the Feasibility Analysis to sort the 5 products based on practicality. The results were as follow:

According to our analysis, only negative air ion disinfection was relatively impractical to be made due to the lack in necessary technical expertise and relevant skills.

On top of the Feasibility Analysis, we also made use of COWS Matrix template to compare and identify the chemical device that is the most suitable to work on. Since the negative air ion disinfection was screened out, hence the comparison was as follow:

As a result of the comparison, antimicrobial coating is the most suitable chemical product where the values lie in its effectiveness of disinfection, effect lasting duration, danger-free usage as well as being odourless.
